  • As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at BBCHS, we are focused on asking our Hispanic and Latinx students about their lived experiences and perspectives. This month is an amazing opportunity to elevate and highlight Hispanic voices within our school community.

Today we get the opportunity to feature Jessica, Magaly, and Adrianna. We invite you to read their words below to gain a new perspective today. Thank you all for sharing with us.

  • 15% of our student body identify as Hispanic or Latinx. The photo you see below is simply a snapshot of these students. There are many different countries and stories represented! We are grateful for our diverse community that provide unique and personal perspectives.

The conversations and celebrations happening throughout the building surrounding Hispanic Heritage Month is inspiring to see!

  • As we continue in our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, today we are excited to feature a new club at BBCHS, Latino Student Union (LSU). LSU was founded in the Spring of 2022 with the goal of providing a safe and comfortable environment for Latinx students to come together and share thoughts, feelings, and views, while also promoting awareness of Latinx culture.

LSU has grown tremendously in the short time that they have been established. Their efforts have made Hispanic Heritage Month at BBCHS something special for all students. We cannot wait to see how they continue to shape and influence the culture at BBCHS throughout the rest of the school year!

  • Hispanic Heritage Month: Flex Friday

Throughout the course of this month, we were able to provide a variety of different hands-on activities for our students to celebrate and gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of Hispanic heritage. Flex Friday is a time that allows for student growth and enrichment during Boiler Block. This is a time provided for students throughout the school year to attend different workshops if they have an interest in diving deeper.

This month, the two Flex Friday options available included:
    - Appreciating Hispanic Cuisine - Cooking in the culinary lab: Quesadillas, Guacamole, and Salsa
    - Learning Latin Dancing – Taught by BBCHS Alumni, Deisy Anderson
Today we want to thank Deisy for taking time out of her busy life to come back and work with our students, as well as our culinary department for setting up the lab space and creating a positive environment for our students. Both of these activities provided such joy.

While Hispanic Heritage Month ends tomorrow, we will share one more final post with you all on Monday!

October 17, 2022

  • Today we conclude our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, and what a beautiful month it has been! We want to take a moment to thank everyone at BBCHS who made this month possible. The intentional focus in the classrooms, the beautiful decorations, and the extensive planning made this time so special for our students. LSU sold t-shirts as a fundraiser for their club. On Friday, staff and students wore their shirts in support.

It is important to recognize that our efforts in equity do not end with the conclusion of this month. Our mission is always to provide a well-rounded and positive learning environment for all students.

Thank you all for a great month!
