As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at BBCHS, we are focusing on asking students their lived experiences and perspectives about this month and what it means to them. Today we asked a few students in our Bilingual Program the question, “What is one part of Hispanic Heritage that you are most proud of?”. The graphic below portrays just a few of their answers. Mark your calendars, Tuesday, October 5!Come celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with us at the BBCHS Soccer Game. Martinex Tacos will be here with their food, farmers market style! JV begins at 5pm and Varsity at 6:30pm.Huge thank you to the equity team as well as the Bilingual and EL staff for making this event happen for our community and students.We hope to see you all there!
Student Spotlight: Tiffani Rodriguez

Today we are continuing to elevate and highlight the Hispanic voices within our school community as part of our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Thank you Tiffani for sharing your voice and perspective with us.
As a reminder, tomorrow we are continuing to celebrate this month in partnership with our soccer team. Martinez tacos will be here with their delicious food, farmers market style for our community. We invite you all to come out and celebrate with us! JV: 5pm & Varsity: 6:30pm.

It brings us a lot of us together to celebrate the ones who are no longer with us in a positive way. We gather, grieve, and eat lots of food. We embrace all the beautiful colors and dances. Día de la Raza

To continue our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, today we want to say Happy Día de la Raza “Day of the Race”, to all our Hispanic/Latinx friends.As USA commemorates Indigenous Peoples' Day on October 11, the Latin American countries such as Mexico, Brazil, and Ecuador celebrate the Día de la Raza ("Day of the Race") on 12th October to recognize their indigenous people, traditions, and cultural heritage.Argentina calls today, "Day of Respect of Cultural Diversity"
and Peru calls it "Day of the Aboriginal Peoples & Intercultural Dialogue"
.
As for Spain, October 12 is also the National Day of Spain, which is to commemorates the Spanish legacy to the world.Let us celebrate this beautiful day together as one. Happy Día de la Raza!
Student Spotlight: Yarizza Pina

Today we are excited to feature BBCHS student Yarizza Pina! Yarizza is a senior student who is described as compassionate and hard-working by all of her teachers. She serves as the President of the Ecology Club, is a proud NHS member, and a Cosmetology student at Kankakee Area Career Center.As part of our Hispanic heritage month celebration, we interviewed Yarizza and are very thankful we got the chance to hear her unique and thoughtful perspectives. She was quick to share praise for her family stating, “It is encouraging to see how my parents have worked so hard to build a better future for us.” Yarizza also shared that her family often partakes in traditional food while discussing different cultural holidays and the importance of celebrating them.Yarizza is busy keeping up with her senior year while also trying to finish her hours at KACC. Thank you for taking the time to speak with us Yarizza! We wish you the very best of luck on all your current and future endeavors.

HeritageOur staff came together to support the BBCHS Entrepreneurship course, while also celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. World Language teachers created this beautiful t-shirt design that entrepreneurship students worked tirelessly to make reality. Staff have been wearing this design around this month as a way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage for our students, staff, and community.
