Portrait of a Graduate
-
Our Portrait of a Graduate (The Six C’s) define our approach to teaching and learning. It is our vision for the six skills to serve as a lens for students with the goal of cultivating successful well-rounded citizens throughout their high school career, as well as heading into the world of life after BBCHS. Our six C’s are as follows: Critical Thinking, Communication, Citizenship, Collaboration, Creativity, and Character.
The equity work in our district revolves around educating our students to allow for personal growth and discovery. It is important to recognize how giving students the space and language to hear multiple perspectives and understand race as a social construct historically and currently affects us all. This work focuses on helping students examine historic and contemporary racial inequality and to hopefully provide students with the tools to help eradicate it.
What does Equity look like in the Six Cs.?
-
Critical Thinking: Students will be challenged to think about problems, events, and solutions from multiple perspectives. Students will critically evaluate information and arguments, seeing patterns and connections, constructing meaningful knowledge and applying it to real world experiences.
Character: Students will develop character traits of tenacity, perseverance, and resilience in seeking equitable opportunities for themselves and others. Students will respect the lived experiences of others and engage and learn from multiple perspectives. They will nurture these traits to address inequities in their schools, communities, and world.
Creativity: Students will ask the right questions to seek information to creatively learn and innovate new ways for all students to learn and solve problems.
Citizenship: Students will think like global citizens, considering global issues based on a deep understanding of diverse values and worldviews, and with a genuine interest and ability to solve complex problems that impact human and environmental sustainability.
Collaboration: Students will work in teams with strong interpersonal and team related skills including effective management of team dynamics, elevating historically marginalized voices, and making substantial decisions together. Students will learn from and contribute to the learning of others.
